What type of home construction in best suited for the climate of Denver?

What climate factors need to be considered when building a home in Denver? How well should the house be insulated? What is the number of heating degree days?(mean below 65 degrees F) What is the number of cooling degree days?(mean above 85 degrees F) Is solar energy an option? Should I worry about water conservation? This is not a homework question! I am looking to move there and have herd lots of bad things and am looking to build a home and need help figuring it all out because my husband is an idiot!

To get really accurate answers you will need to ask a home construction person, but I will give you some rough ideas. >> What climate factors need to be considered when building a home in Denver? Denver gets cold. It can get below zero and stay there. In summer it can stay over 90 for weeks. The heat and cold are dry so it rarely gets really hot or really bone-chilling cold. I consider Houston really hot. I consider the east coast really cold. I have never been that miserable in Denver. A well constructed, well insulated, passive-solar designed, south-facing house is a big plus. >> How well should the house be insulated? I would suggest R30 or above >> What is the number of heating degree days?(mean below 65 degrees F) At night temps gets below 65 a good deal of the time. A well build house will retain heat so there is no need to turn a furnace on until it gets a lot colder than 65. You get a few well places fans and there is no need for air conditioning. Again, dry heat. >> Is solar energy an option? Absolutely! With over 300 days that are at least party sunny, solar is an excellent option. Passive solar is one of the best options around. We have serious water shortage problems that are only partially being addressed. Consider xeriscaping your yard and use water wisely.

What are the best communities to purchase a home in Denver, Colorado?

What are the best communities to purchase a home in Denver, Colorado area? I will be moving there next summer and my work location will be around the South of Denver area. I'm looking for an area with good schools, low crime, and nice track homes in the low to mid 300K range. Mostly interested in new homes (new tracks)! Thanks I believe the company that I work for is moving to either Littleton or Greenwood Village. I am moving from Southern California and traffic is bad here, so any commute under 30 minutes is fantastic.

Depends where exactly you are moving to. South West Denver is Littleton (Jefferson County) and South East Denver is Aurora. I no longer live in Colorado but I always preferred Jefferson County, however, you may be closer to Castle Rock. Denver area is huge and the traffic is awful. It really depends where you are moving from.

the distance is the same both times. since d = r(t) then rate1 x time1 = rate2 x time 2 if the slow rate is r, the fast rate is r + 2 r(5) = (r + 2)(4.8) ---->12 minutes earlier is 1/5 hour earlier, so the fast trip takes 4 and 4/5 hours 5r = 4.8r + 9.6 multiply by 10 to get rid of the decimals 50r = 48r + 96 2r = 96 r = 48 mph slow and 50 mph fast the distance to denver is either 48(5) or 50(4.8), that is, 240 miles
